Skills and Education Group Access Welcomes Dr. Gill Scott as the New Chair of Trustees

We are thrilled to announce Dr. Gill Scott’s appointment as the new Chair of the Trustees for Skills and Education Group Access. Dr. Scott brings an exceptional wealth of experience and a deep commitment to widening participation and educational equity, making her an invaluable addition to our team.

Gill’s career spans over 30 years, during which she has dedicated herself to improving access, participation, equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within further and higher education. Her extensive experience includes designing, writing, and teaching Access to HE programmes, as well as validating and quality-assuring a diverse range of academic programmes in the UK and internationally.

Gill has worked with numerous prestigious institutions throughout her career, including the South Yorkshire Open College Network, The Lifelong Learning Network, the University of Derby, Sheffield Hallam, and Nottingham Trent University, to develop and promote Access and widening participation initiatives.

Dr. Gill Scott’s academic credentials are as remarkable as her extensive experience. She holds a BA in Social Studies, an MBA, and a Doctorate in Education Management. As Dean of Education at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), she delivered and developed innovative teacher training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for the post-16 sector. Her exceptional leadership culminated in an “Outstanding” rating from Ofsted, a testament to her commitment to excellence. Notably, she also championed accessible pathways into teacher training for adults and underrepresented groups, ensuring inclusivity across primary, secondary, and higher education levels.

Beyond her academic achievements, Gill has served on Governing Boards of colleges and schools, worked as a consultant for universities, and chaired the Universities Council for Teacher Education, where she liaised with government agencies and ministers on teacher supply, qualification routes, and accreditation.

Gill is enthusiastic about her new role as Chair of the Skills and Education Group Access Board. She is committed to contributing to the provision of high-quality Access routes that benefit both providers and learners.
